Ride on Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway to get delayed, Centre yet to set timeline for opening

Full opening of Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is delayed due to construction halt on the 25.5-km Arakkonam-Kancheepuram stretch since May 2025, with only 53% completed.

The concessionaire stopped work due to financial difficulties; NHAI issued a termination notice on Nov 10, 2025, but the Madras High Court ordered status quo, and the matter is sub-judice.

Lenders are proposed to substitute the concessionaire; delays in land acquisition, utility shifting, and railway power blocks in Tamil Nadu also contributed to setbacks.

Only the 105-km Hoskote-Byreddipalle section (Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh) is operational; construction in other Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh sections is advanced but incomplete.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed Lok Sabha that no clear timeline for completion has been set by the Centre.
