Chandigarh: ₹17-crore boys’ hostel to come up at PEC; to house 309 students

Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria laid the foundation stone of a new boys' hostel at Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh's Sector 12.

The ₹17-crore hostel will have 103 triple-sharing rooms accommodating 309 students, plus two guest rooms and a warden's room.

The building addresses student concerns about overcrowding and infrastructure issues such as double occupancy, poorly maintained washrooms, delayed furniture allotment, and lack of a formal student body.

Scheduled for completion in 18 months, the hostel will be G+6 with a built-up area of 78,400 square feet.

With the new hostel and two other projects (girls' hostel extension and research scholars' hostel), PEC's total capacity will rise from 2,178 to 2,906 students.
