US defense chief: Iran operations cost $37.5 billion

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told lawmakers the Iran war has cost $37.5 billion so far, including projected expenses through Sept. 30, 2026.

President Donald Trump requested nearly $90 billion in additional funding from Congress, mostly for the Iran conflict.

The U.S. and Israel began bombing Iran on February 28, 2026.

Lawmakers from both parties complained that Trump and his team have not kept them informed about the conflict or plans.

Critics, including Senator Patty Murray, accused Trump of threatening escalation and war crimes, including against civilian infrastructure.
