Athletics rookie infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured testicle after fouling a pitch into his groin during a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The surgery was performed at a hospital in Phoenix, and the A's placed Kuroda-Grauer on the 10-day injured list.
Kuroda-Grauer, 23, remained in the game briefly after the injury and delivered a single before exiting in the sixth inning.
He had hit his first major league home run earlier in the 5-2 victory and is batting .417 with one homer and four RBIs in 16 major league games.
The Athletics also recalled third baseman Max Muncy and right-hander Hayden Juenger from Triple-A Las Vegas and placed right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. on the 15-day injured list.
