Gorakhpur cop arrested for rape, murder of girl
Uttar Pradesh police constable Abhishek Yadav was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping and killing a 10-year-old girl in Gorakhpur.
The victim disappeared after leaving Gorakhpur District Hospital on July 28; her body was found near Chiutihan Bridge over the Rapti River on Thursday.
CCTV footage allegedly showed Yadav taking the child on a motorcycle; the vehicle's registration number helped trace him.
Yadav, a 2018-batch constable, was suspended in January 2025 over molestation allegations and reinstated in September 2025; departmental dismissal proceedings and NSA action are initiated.
He was booked under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder, with more sections to be added after postmortem.
