Pune Marathon Runner Saves Four Lives Through Organ Donation After Fatal Road Accident

Uday Birmal, a 37-year-old marathon runner from Pune, was critically injured on July 19 when an auto-rickshaw hit him while training.

He was declared brain dead at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital after failing to recover from severe head injuries.

Birmal's family donated his organs, including his heart, liver, and both kidneys.

The heart was transported to Mumbai via a green corridor facilitated by Pune Police for transplantation.

His liver and one kidney were transplanted at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, and the other kidney was sent to another Pune hospital, saving four lives.
