4 held for Virreshwar Temple theft, 17kg silver covering recovered

Khopoli police arrested four people for stealing a 17-kg silver covering from the shivling at the Peshwa-era Virreshwar Temple in Navi Mumbai.

The theft occurred around 2:30 am on Sunday and was captured on CCTV cameras inside the temple.

The accused were identified as Amol Suresh Kasbe (36), Vilas Sahebrao Agiwale (25), Dilip Raju Jadhav (40), and Sakharam Chhaban Gaikwad (40).

Police traced the accused to Shirur in Pune district and Parner in Ahilyanagar district using CCTV footage, FASTag data, and electronic surveillance.

A non-functional CCTV camera outside the temple initially hindered the investigation.
