`Freedom from Waste’ campaign from Aug 1 in Bengaluru to clear debris, legacy trash

Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) launches ‘Freedom from Waste’ campaign from August 1 in Bengaluru to clear construction debris, legacy trash, and soil dumped on public land.

Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda introduces the acronym JCB — ‘Just Clean Bengaluru’ — as part of the drive.

Over 1,600 locations with accumulated debris have been identified, with an estimated 22,000 tonnes of waste, possibly close to 1 lakh tonnes.

The campaign will be coordinated with agencies including Bescom, BWSSB, BMRCL, K-Ride, and Railways to clear waste from civic spaces and railway properties.

Owners of vacant plots must clear accumulated waste by August 15; failure will lead to cleaning by city corporations with costs added to property tax accounts.
