Delhi tribunal awards ₹24.52 lakh to sisters of road accident victim after mother's death

Delhi Motor Accident Claims Tribunal awarded ₹24.52 lakh to two married sisters of a road accident victim, Suraj, who died in 2018.

The tribunal held that the right to claim compensation did not lapse after the death of the sole claimant, the mother, and legal representatives can continue proceedings.

Presiding Officer Richa Manchanda cited Supreme Court and Delhi High Court judgments in the decision.

Suraj was employed as an operator with Contitech India Pvt Ltd and earned ₹16,678 monthly at the time of the accident.

The tribunal directed insurer New India Assurance Company Ltd to deposit the amount with 7.5% interest from October 25, 2018, within 30 days.
