Noise violations by Kanwariyas in Delhi

Kanwar Yatra processions in Delhi are playing loudspeakers and boom boxes beyond permissible limits late at night, with residents complaining of little police intervention.

Processions enter Delhi through borders with Ghaziabad and Noida, mainly affecting east, south, and southeast Delhi areas like Greater Kailash, CR Park, Kalkaji, New Friends Colony, Nehru Place, and Lajpat Nagar.

The Supreme Court bans loudspeakers after 10pm; CPCB rules allow max 55dB(A) in residential areas from 6am to 10pm, dropping to 45dB(A) from 10pm to 6am.

Residents' welfare associations, such as Triveni Mahajan of Friends Colony East RWA, expect disruptions to worsen with the first Monday of Sawan.

The Kanwar Yatra began on July 30, with devotees carrying Ganges water during the sacred month of Sawan.
