Only 33% availed water bill waiver in Delhi; last date Aug 15

Only 32.6% (478,999) of 1.46 million Delhi Jal Board consumers with outstanding dues availed of the Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) waiver scheme, leaving 67.38% with unpaid bills.
The scheme requires paying only the principal amount, with interest and late payment surcharge waived; it runs until August 15, 2026, after being extended from its original March 31, 2026 deadline.
DJB collected ₹641.11 crore in revenue and waived ₹1,709.72 crore in interest since the scheme's launch on October 14, 2025.
Total outstanding water bills were ₹87,588 crore, comprising ₹7,125 crore principal and ₹80,463 crore LPSC; domestic pending bills were ₹16,126 crore.
Payment slowed after extension; many consumers dispute bills, saying they were previously zero or never generated.
