Bengaluru has water reserves for only 4 months

Bengaluru has water reserves sufficient for only four months, according to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

Combined storage in Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) and Kabini reservoirs meets the city's monthly demand of nearly 2.3 thousand million cubic feet (tmc).

BWSSB directed officials to monitor groundwater levels and obtain a report from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on groundwater status.

Residents are urged to conserve water and avoid using treated drinking water for gardening or washing doorsteps.

The Central Public Health and Environment Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO) benchmark for domestic water supply in cities with sewerage is 135 litres per capita per day (LPCD).
