No return to old Indus Waters Treaty: India pushes 4,870 MW Chenab hydropower plan

in5points
India has decided not to return to the original Indus Waters Treaty and is pushing hydroelectric development on the Chenab River.
The plan includes projects totalling 4,870 MW on the Chenab, with four projects of 3,014 MW under construction by NHPC.
The 1,856 MW Sawalkote hydroelectric project remains at the clearance stage.
This move signals a shift in India's approach to water sharing under the Indus Waters Treaty framework.
