3 Indians die in workplace accidents in Gulf every week, shows MEA data

Over 800 Indian expats died in workplace accidents between 2023 and 2025, with 55% in Gulf countries (nearly 3 deaths a week), per MEA data.

Saudi Arabia recorded 182 deaths over the period (more than one per week), UAE 128, and a Qatar blast killed 12 Indians in June 2026.

Most Gulf Indian workers are in high-risk sectors like construction, retail, warehouses, and automobiles.

Causes include inadequate safety equipment, poor protocol adherence, technical failures, insufficient training, and temperature swings from 45°C to 20°C.

Suicides are driven by cramped quarters, poor food, 12-hour shifts, wage delays up to three months, and employers attributing deaths to 'natural causes' to evade compensation.
