Meet Indian-origin tech leader Uday Ruddaraju, who has become OpenAI's CTO of Compute

OpenAI promoted Indian-origin tech leader Uday Ruddaraju to CTO of Compute.

Ruddaraju joined OpenAI a year ago after stepping down as Head of Infrastructure Engineering at xAI.

He will oversee building the world’s largest compute footprint for frontier AI models like GPT-5.6.

Ruddaraju holds a Bachelor's in Computer Science from Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, and a Master's from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

He previously worked at eBay, Robinhood, and xAI, where he helped build the Colossus supercomputer.
