EPFO: Want to claim provident fund after EPF member's death? Here's how

in5points
  1. The family (nominees or legal heirs) of an EPF subscriber can claim the provident fund savings after the member's death.

  2. The claim process must be completed through the official EPFO portal, not the Umang mobile app.

  3. Required documents include the deceased member's 12-digit UAN, beneficiary's Aadhaar, death certificate, and bank proof.

  4. EPF is paid to the nominee as per the member's nomination; if no nomination exists, it is paid to family members (spouse and children) in equal shares.

  5. For FY26, the EPFO set an 8.25% interest rate for EPF and VPF, with interest credits completed on 15 July.
