Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority clears 3.3 acres of Hebbal lake land for tunnel project

Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority (KTCDA) granted conditional approval to Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for a tunnel through Hebbal Lake premises.

Approval covers 3.3 acres within Hebbal Lake for a tunnel connecting Hebbal Junction with University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) quarters on Ballari Road.

Conditions include keeping the lake's physical structure undisturbed, preserving natural water flow, ensuring public and wildlife access, and compliance with National Green Tribunal (NGT) directions.

Permission requires approval from Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), but a GBA official noted limited scope to intervene, expecting impact on lake's water-holding capacity and tree loss.
