KGMU’s non-veg ban sparks controversy

King George’s Medical University (KGMU) banned cooking and serving non-vegetarian food in all hostel messes after governor Anandiben Patel flagged concerns during a campus inspection.

Islamic scholar Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali criticized the decision, stating it contradicts scientific nutrition and that non-vegetarian food benefits health and immunity.

KGMU faculty members argued the ban violates personal choice and may negatively impact students' health.

Some hostel mess operators stopped serving eggs following the ban, according to faculty members.
