Two Varanasi highway projects worth Rs 25,446 crore approved - how they will affect commuters

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved two highway projects in Varanasi worth Rs 25,446 crore.

A Rs 10,998.32 crore Varuna Expressway will build a 43.2-km elevated corridor linking NH-31 to Varanasi Ring Road along the Varuna river.

The Varuna Expressway is designed for 80-100 kmph and is expected to cut travel time between NH-31 and Kashi Railway Station from 40 to 20 minutes.

A Rs 14,447.64-crore project will develop a 46.04-km six-lane elevated corridor connecting NH-19 with Varanasi Ring Road along the Ganga riverbank.
