Oregon man charged for illegally catching sharks

Connor Seifert, 27, of Saint Helens, Oregon, was charged after illegally catching bluntnose sixgill and broadnose sevengill sharks from Puget Sound.

Seifert filmed videos of himself wrestling the sharks, including forcing open a shark's mouth and holding one by the tail.

It is illegal to fish for sharks in Puget Sound; sixgill and sevengill sharks are listed as Species of Greatest Conservation Need.

He was arrested in June while pulling a sixgill shark from the water for a photo and faces nine counts of unlawful fishing and two gross misdemeanors.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife investigated after receiving 14 complaints about Seifert's activities.
