Puttur temple kitchen sheds LPG, eyes ₹85L savings

Mahatobhara Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur installed a steam boiler fuelled by firewood, dried tender coconut shells, and coconut shells, nearly eliminating LPG use for cooking anna prasada.

The Rs 4 lakh project is expected to cut annual fuel expenses by around Rs 85 lakh.

The temple previously used an average of eight commercial LPG cylinders daily and now serves anna prasada to 3,000-5,000 devotees, including about 2,500 students, each day.

The steam boiler consumes little firewood; devotees' offerings of about 1,000 tender coconuts on Mondays are dried and used as fuel, along with previously discarded coconut shells.
