Mizoram minister Lalnilawma meets NDMA leadership; seeks 'disaster' status for African swine fever

Mizoram Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Minister Lalnilawma met senior leadership of the NDMA to review disaster risk reduction priorities.

The meeting discussed the state's vulnerability to earthquakes, landslides, forest fires, and other natural hazards.

Lalnilawma requested the NDMA to notify African Swine Fever as a natural disaster to facilitate financial assistance.

Progress under the National Earthquake Risk Mitigation Programme (NERMP) and National Landslide Risk Mitigation Programme (NLRMP) was reviewed.

The NDMA emphasized risk-informed land-use planning, resilient infrastructure, strict building bylaws, and community awareness.
