Dubai’s DP World to Build Two New Terminals on U.A.E. East Coast, Bypassing Hormuz

DP World will develop two new maritime terminals in Fujairah on the U.A.E. east coast under a 50-year concession with the Fujairah Ports Authority.

The project includes a container and multipurpose terminal and a general-cargo terminal, with construction expected to take 24 to 30 months.

The terminals will reduce the U.A.E.'s reliance on the Strait of Hormuz, which has been disrupted by U.S.-Iran hostilities.

DP World's container-handling capacity in the U.A.E. will increase to nearly 22 million TEUs from 19.4 million.

The facilities will integrate with DP World's logistics network at Jebel Ali, providing additional capacity as that port operates at high utilization.
