Lopes Cabral's curling goal against Argentina voted FIFA World Cup's best goal

Sidny Lopes Cabral won the FIFA World Cup Goal of the Tournament public vote for his curling strike into the top corner against Argentina during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The goal came in extra time of Cape Verde's Round of 32 match in Miami Gardens, drawing his side level at 2-2 against the defending champions Argentina, who later won 3-2.

The 2026 World Cup was Cape Verde's first appearance; they progressed from the group stage before exiting in the Round of 32.

Lopes Cabral's effort was voted best among 308 goals scored in the tournament, ahead of goals by Eldor Shomurodov (Uzbekistan) and Wilson Isidor (Haiti).

After scoring, Lopes Cabral climbed into the stands to hug his girlfriend and found his mother had fainted from excitement.
