Chhattisgarh worker shot dead, another wounded in first J&K terror attack on migrants in 21 months

Terrorists shot dead a 24-year-old labourer from Chhattisgarh (identified as Deepak Ratray) and critically wounded another (Bhupender, 28) at a brick kiln in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

This is the first fatal attack on migrant workers in J&K since October 18, 2024, when a worker from Bihar's Banka was killed in Shopian district.

Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation to trace the attackers; IGP (Kashmir) Vidhi Kumar Birdi identified the slain worker.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and directed security forces to intensify operations, while Mehbooba Mufti and Altaf Thakur also condemned it.

The attack occurred during the Amarnath Yatra period, which has been suspended on the Pahalgam side due to heavy rain and landslides since July 19.
