Matt Gutman nearly loses funds in convincing phone scam

CBS News correspondent Matt Gutman narrowly avoided a convincing phone scam that nearly led him to empty his bank account.

The scammer, claiming to be from his bank's "fraud protection" department, had detailed knowledge of Gutman's personal banking information.

Gutman was instructed to withdraw all funds from his bank account in cash to "trigger the fraudsters into action" as part of a fake sting operation.

The scammer's demand that Gutman not inform bank employees because they "might be in on it" made him realize it was a fraudulent scheme.
