Surgeon explains dark circles shades, when to seek care

Dr AAV Ramalinga Reddy, senior cataract surgeon at Dr Ramalinga Reddy Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals, explained that dark circles are not always due to lack of sleep and can arise from pigmentation, loose eyelid skin, visible blood vessels, under-eye bags, or eye irritation.
Brown-toned dark circles may indicate pigmentation, blue or purple shades suggest visible blood vessels under thin skin, and darkness varying with lighting could be structural shadowing.
Puffiness accompanied by itching and congestion may point to allergies as a cause.
Seek medical attention for dark circles when they appear with additional symptoms, as they may be a health concern beyond cosmetics.
No single cream can fix dark circles because they have multiple causes, and they should not be treated solely as a cosmetic issue.
