Former India player Viren Rasquinha criticized the change, saying it compromised the team's legacy, which led to the controversy.

Hockey India defended the change, stating the blue uniform blended with the blue synthetic pitch, affecting player visibility, and that players and staff were consulted.

Tirkey's email to board members raised concerns about the process, not the color choice, and noted the issue attracted media and political interpretation.

The change is for the upcoming FIH World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium.
