Wife, daughter of Bangladeshi politician drown rescuing child at UK beach

Shelina Rahman, wife of Dr Mansur Rahman (leader of Jubo Dal UK), and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha drowned at West Mersea Beach in Essex.

They entered the sea to rescue a six-year-old child swept away by strong currents during high tide.

Both women died after encountering difficulties during the rescue attempt.

Large-scale emergency response involved police, ambulance, fire, RNLI, coastguard, and air ambulances.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham paid tribute to emergency services, calling the events very sad.
