Bryan Kohberger’s former defence expert turns against him, backs death penalty

Sy Ray, a former digital forensics expert hired by Bryan Kohberger's defence, reversed his stance and now supports the death penalty, citing new analysis of phone data.

Ray's analysis showed multiple 'collisions' between Kohberger's phone and victim Madison Mogen's device, leading him to believe Kohberger had been inside the victims' home before the murders and Mogen may have been the intended target.

Kohberger filed a handwritten petition to withdraw his guilty plea, alleging ineffective counsel and pressure from his lawyers.

Kohberger is serving four consecutive life sentences without parole for killing Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.

The victims' families are prepared for a possible retrial, with prosecutors potentially seeking the death penalty again.
