Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew said 'I do not yet know of a man who became a leader as a result of having undergone a leadership course' in his book The Wit & Wisdom of Lee Kuan Yew.

Lee believed leaders are made through everyday crises and hardened by situations, not manufactured in leadership courses.

Lee Kuan Yew founded the People's Action Party (PAP) in 1954 and became Singapore's first prime minister in 1959.

He led Singapore to independence in 1965 after its expulsion from Malaysia, facing severe challenges including no natural resources and high unemployment.
