Students from around the world experience the Jain way of life in Rajasthan
Nearly three dozen students, scholars, and faculty from eight countries are spending three weeks in Ladnun, Rajasthan, experiencing Jainism through daily practice.
The immersive summer program, running July 20 to August 8, is a collaboration among Florida International University, California State University Long Beach, the Jain Education and Research Foundation, Jain Visva Bharati Institute, and philanthropist Dr. Jasvant Modi.
Participants meditate each morning, attend lectures on Jain philosophy, Prakrit, and principles like Ahimsa (nonviolence), Anekantavada (multiplicity of viewpoints), and Aparigraha (non-attachment), and interact with monks and nuns.
Professor Anne Vallely of the University of Ottawa described the program as 'tremendous' and noted daily lessons from 9 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m.
Ladnun has been the spiritual home of the Terapanth order of Jainism for over three centuries.
