After made-in-India bullet train, new high-speed corridors to get indigenous signalling system

Indian Railways is developing an indigenous high-speed rail signalling system called the Bharat Train Control System (BTCS).

BTCS is designed for Indian operating conditions and is open-source, cost-effective, and tailored for rapid deployment.

The system aims to eliminate dependence on foreign signalling protocols for nearly 7,000 km of planned bullet train corridors.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor currently uses the European Train Control System (ETCS), and BTCS will build on that experience.

The technology could eventually be offered to other countries, and it is expected to boost domestic railway design companies and equipment manufacturers.
