Kukke ghat goes under as rains intensify

Kumaradhara River swelled and submerged the sacred bathing ghat at Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple in Dakshina Kannada, prompting authorities to bar devotees from entering the river.

Large drums filled with water were placed near the temple as an alternative bathing facility for devotees.

Heavy rain caused flooding on the road to Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, landslides on the Mundaje-Dharmasthala Road, and a land caved in near Gundi on the Dharmasthala-Kalmanja Road, disrupting traffic.

Nadpalu in Karkala taluk of Udupi district and Mundaje in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada recorded 174.5mm and 160mm of rainfall respectively.

The IMD issued a flash-flood warning and orange alert for low-lying areas until Aug 2, 11:30am; NDRF and SDRF teams were deployed in Belthangady and Subrahmanya.
