Ludhiana: Ahead of HC hearing, MLAs’ sons quit F&CC amid appointment row

Councillor Aman Bagga, son of Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga, and Yuvraj Singh Sidhu, son of Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu, resigned from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation's Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC).

The resignations came ahead of a Punjab and Haryana high court hearing on August 7, which was to address a petition by Congress councillor Gaurav Bhatti challenging their appointments for allegedly violating the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act.

Bhatti's petition alleged that the F&CC appointments contradicted the statutory framework, and the court had earlier directed the mayor to file an affidavit and submit details of committee decisions.

The councillors said they resigned to ensure development work was not affected, as the legal dispute had delayed key projects; they had submitted resignations on July 30 but delayed public notice due to a sanitation workers' strike.

Congress called the resignations a victory of rule of law, while BJP's Sunil Moudgil dismissed them as a political move.
