Corey Ruiz's family: Mother, daughter and brother speak out after Madison police shooting; 'He was a loved man'

Corey Ruiz, 38, was fatally shot by a Madison police officer on July 22, 2026.

His mother Elsa Ruiz, daughter Kah’liyah Aliomar (13), and brother Adam Ruiz spoke publicly for the first time at a July 24 press conference with attorney Ben Crump.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating; the officer involved and three other officers present remain on leave.

Kah’liyah questioned why officers did not use another approach before deadly force, and Ben Crump called for body cameras for Madison police.
