Two policemen booked over alleged custodial death in Karnataka's Vijayanagara district

An FIR was registered against Station House Officer Raghavendra and sentry constable Venkatesh after the death of 38-year-old Khaleelullah in Vijayanagara district, Karnataka.

Khaleelullah was brought to the police station for questioning at around 1:30 am on Sunday following a complaint by his wife that he had assaulted her.

His family alleged that police assaulted him in custody; he was later taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A case was registered under Sections 103 and 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the wife's complaint of custodial assault.

The investigation has been entrusted to a Deputy Superintendent of Police, and a magisterial inquest and post-mortem examination have been conducted.
