Vishwesh Negi, 2002-batch IFS officer, appointed next ambassador of India to Iran

Vishwesh Negi, a 2002-batch IFS officer, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Iran, currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry.

The appointment follows recent Israeli and US strikes on Iran, during which India evacuated thousands of nationals.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran facilitated the return of 2,557 Indian nationals via Armenia and Azerbaijan since hostilities began.

Around 7,000 Indians, including students and workers, continue to reside in Iran, and India has raised issues faced by medical students who had to return.
