Police foil cross-border terror conspiracy, 1 held with grenade

Amritsar commissionerate police arrested Sumit Kumar, alias Pandit, and recovered a hand grenade, a 9MM Glock pistol, and four live cartridges.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the accused was in contact with cross-border ISI handlers through Instagram and was directed to target police establishments and public places.

Amritsar CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest was based on reliable intelligence and technical surveillance, and further recovery of a grenade exposed cross-border links.

A case under Sections 25 (6,7,8) of the Arms Act, Section 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Act was registered at Cantonment police station in Amritsar.

Sumit Kumar was already facing a drug case prior to this arrest.
