Rahul Gandhi asks Amit Shah if he approved use of ‘lethal force’ on student protesters

Rahul Gandhi wrote to Union home minister Amit Shah demanding accountability for the July 20 police action on peaceful student protesters in Delhi.

Gandhi asked whether Shah approved the use of lethal force including pellet guns, tear gas, and lathi charges against protesters.

The protest was led by the online collective Cockroach Janta Party and backed by activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a 26-day hunger strike demanding education system reforms.

Gandhi cited the case of 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, who may lose an eye after being hit by pellet guns during the crackdown.

Gandhi said women students were assaulted by policemen targeting their private parts and held Shah directly responsible for the violence.
