Hepatitis-A, typhoid outbreak hits Kaithal village; 47 infected

At least 47 residents of Sajuma village in Kaithal were infected with Hepatitis A and Typhoid in July 2026, allegedly due to contaminated water.
Kaithal deputy commissioner Aparajita and civil surgeon Dr. Renu Chawla visited the village after the outbreak.
Officials inspected 1,500 households and collected blood samples from 109 residents; 35 tested positive for Hepatitis A and 12 for typhoid.
A 12-year-old girl died during treatment; her final report from PGIMER, Chandigarh, is pending for confirmation.
The DC directed the public health department to study supplying drinking water from the Bhakra canal and to repair damaged pipelines and the non-functional RO plant.
