No nod yet for ₹12,937cr PCMC Metro Phase 2 plan

Maha-Metro and PCMC have held four presentations on the revised Detailed Project Report for the ₹12,937.23-crore Metro Phase 2 project connecting Bhakti Shakti, Wakad, Nashik Phata, and Chakan, but PCMC has not yet approved it.

The 45.295-km corridor with 34 stations is designed to integrate with Bhakti Shakti (Phase 1 extension), Wakad Chowk (Metro Line 3), Nashik Phata (Line 1), and Sant Tukaram Nagar (Line 1) for seamless transit across Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

PCMC has requested stakeholders to submit further suggestions in writing after the latest presentation, delaying the project that has awaited general body approval for nearly six months.

A senior Maha-Metro official expressed frustration over repeated consultations, noting that frequent changes to the DPR are impractical.

The project aims to improve connectivity to employment hubs like Hinjewadi and Chakan and includes the proposed Nigdi-Talawade IT Park-Chakan 'missing link' Metro.
