Blanche Formally Rescinds ‘Anti-Weaponization’ Fund in Bid to Smooth Confirmation

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche formally rescinded the $1.8 billion 'anti-weaponization fund' in a one-page order, stating it 'is rescinded and shall have no force or effect.'

The fund was an impasse for Republican Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, who were blocking Blanche's confirmation as attorney general.

The Justice Department released a separate document addressing the senators' demand to narrow tax audit protections for the president, his family, and his businesses.

Cornyn's office said the Justice Department committed to formally terminate the fund and clarify in a binding written document that the scope of audit protections was limited.

The announcement came ahead of a Senate Judiciary Committee vote on Blanche scheduled for Tuesday.
