‘Wanted performers over so-called stars’: Dhurandhar producer reveals why Ranveer Singh was cast in the film

Jio Studios CEO Jyoti Deshpande said Dhurandhar cast Ranveer Singh because they wanted performers, not 'so-called stars', and adding expensive actors would make the film unviable.

Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar and released on December 5, 2025, grossed over ₹1300 crore globally.

Ranveer Singh played an Indian spy on a mission in Pakistan in Dhurandhar.

Deshpande praised Ranveer for transforming into characters, citing performances in Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and the role of Khilji.

The producer acknowledged the film overran multiple times, but said there was 'mad conviction' from the team.
