Maharashtra approved the Maharashtra Bioplastics Policy 2026, the state's first dedicated bioplastics policy.
The policy aims to attract ₹25,000 crore in greenfield investments over five years, including ₹10,000 crore in PLA manufacturing facilities.
It targets reducing Maharashtra's dependence on imported PLA by 50% by 2030 and replacing at least 30% of single-use plastic (SUP) packaging with bioplastics in identified sectors.
The policy seeks to generate 100,000 jobs and integrate 100,000 farmers into the bioplastics feedstock supply chain using sugarcane, corn, and starch.
Maharashtra aims to ramp up bioplastics exports to $1 billion and expand domestic production of biopolymers.
