Parliamentary panel warns of overreach in VBSA Bill

The Vishwakarma Bhavishya Shiksha Adhiniyam (VBSA) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in December 2025 and referred to a joint committee.

The bill proposes replacing the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) with a unified regulatory commission.

A parliamentary panel flagged that the VBSA Bill could lead to 'bureaucratic or ideological overreach' in higher education.
