Ludhiana: Rahon Road residents, farmers stall NH-44 traffic over civic issues

Residents of Rahon Road and farmer unions stalled traffic on NH-44 at Basti Jodhewal Chowk in Ludhiana for nearly an hour on July 16, 2026.

Protesters demanded reconstruction of Rahon Road, improvement of the sewerage network, and removal of encroachments.

The blockade caused massive congestion, stranding commuters including office-goers, schoolchildren, and transporters in humid conditions.

Farmer leader Dilbag Singh said authorities failed to address problems despite repeated representations.

The protest ended after officials from district administration, municipal corporation, and public works department assured work on the road project would start within days and issues resolved by July 27.
