Andhra Pradesh unveils AI-powered City Flood Alert system to predict urban flooding

Andhra Pradesh government unveiled AI-powered City Flood Alert platform to predict urban flooding.

City Flood Alert developed by RTGS AWARE Division with APSDMA and IIT Gandhinahar combines AI, predictive analytics, satellite terrain mapping, and hydrological modeling.

System provides rainfall forecasts up to 48 hours and flash flood warnings up to 6 hours, identifying flood-prone wards and alerting officials.

Platform initially launched in Vijayawada, using a high-resolution Digital Elevation Model from satellite imagery and 30 years of Budameru flood data.

System shifted disaster management from reactive to predictive and preventive governance, with plans to expand to all urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh.
