Army to use XWG Diesel for vehicles in Ladakh

The Indian Army launched the indigenously developed Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) diesel for combat vehicles in high-altitude areas like Eastern Ladakh along the LAC.

XWG diesel remains effective at temperatures as low as minus 42°C, preventing fuel thickening and filter clogging in sub-zero conditions.

The fuel is compliant with BS-VI standards and IS 1460:2025 specifications, and works in existing vehicles without engine modifications.

The Army previously had soldiers start and run vehicles regularly to prevent freezing, which stressed personnel and reduced engine life.

The fuel was developed with oil marketing firms in under a year and will also be available to civilians in severe winter regions.
