Land mine blast survivor Soman Rana scripts golden CWG story

Soman Rana, an Army para-athlete, won India's first-ever Commonwealth Games gold in men's F57 shot put at Glasgow with a throw of 13.40m.

Rana, who lost his right leg in a land mine blast in 2006, also won silver with training partner Shubham Juyal (13.28m), giving India a one-two finish.

Rana, a former national-level boxer who trained with Vijender Singh, took up para sports after his injury; his coach cites his spirit and determination.

At 43, Rana manages diabetes and high blood pressure while still producing personal best performances, according to coach Rakesh Singh Rawat.
